Music students at Kirkby High School have created original songs alongside professional musicians. The summer term of 2015 saw Liam Frost, Hannah Hird, Christian Madden and Richard Jupp run song writing workshops with Kirkby High School’s music students.
For 10 weeks the students wrote their own songs, using Liam Frost’s ‘If tonight we could only sleep’ for inspiration. Students were very enthusiastic about the project and have enjoyed the process in creating something of their own. The students’ confidence has blossomed and they’ve managed to develop their instrumental skills as well.

This incredible opportunity allowed year 9 students to get a taste of what their GCSE Music course was to be like, and they relished the challenge.
Two pupils that have shone through the programme are year 10 student Jamie Boyd and year 9 student Lily Madden. Both students had already turned their hands to song writing and were able to improve their skills even further alongside the professional musicians.
All of their hard work accumulated in them both giving solo performances of their own music to over 1,000 people at Kirkby festival on July 4th.
The best composed songs will be performed at Kirkby’s Got Talent at Kirkby High School on Tuesday July 17th at 7pm.
Look out for the Kirkby Singer Songwriters Festival near you!
